June 1 2009 - Q&A: Technique

I have decided to try predesigned tips with art, but I am having trouble making the acrylic or gel stick to them.

After a few days the product lifts off the tips. I tried to gently file the tip’s surface but it takes the design off. Please help.

It could be that the tip is getting oil on it before the acrylic or gel is applied. Be extra careful to make sure you don’t touch the tip with your finger and put a fingerprint on it. Lotion residue on the tip can also cause problems. Try wiping the tip with alcohol or nail prep to cleanse it before application (but try it out on an unused tip first to make sure doing this doesn’t hurt the design).
