Acrylic Roses for Spring

By Sarah Hallford

When a BeautyTech.com forum user asked how to create acrylic roses for a client who’s getting married this month (she wanted to place the roses on the client’s ring finger), Sarah Hallford, education director at California Nail & Spa Supply in Citrus Heights, Calif., came to the rescue. She posted step-by-step instructions, along with a picture of the final product on the message board for everyone to follow.

NAILS asked Hallford to enhance her step-by-step with more photos and let us publish it just in time for wedding and prom season. Here are the step-by steps for your own acrylic roses. Try creating them in different colors to match your clients’ special event dresses or wedding themes.

1. To start your bud, pat out a medium-sized dry-ish bead onto a nail form in an eyebrow/rectangle shape. To give yourself more working time, use a mixture of half acetone and half monomer.

2. Let it set up to the molding stage and roll it around itself to form the rosebud.

3. Pat out several beads into a petal shape.

4. Attach petals while the acrylic is still moldable or with nail adhesive. Pat out more beads and repeat until you have the rose as full as you’d like it.

5. Finished! The roses tend to look better if the petals are pressed out a little messy rather than perfectly shaped.
