NAILS Next Top Nail Artist (NTNA) first runner-up Lauren Wireman often wears a full set of 3-D nail art. She wore it to ISSE Long Beach 2014 while completing her final NTNA challenge, and she wears it when working on her clients at her Cape Coral, Fla.-based salon Wildflowers. When we asked Wireman how she keeps her nail embellishments intact despite the damage that regularly occurs on the job, she revealed her simple secret: “I keep my two middle finger nails shorter than the rest.”

“When I’m e-filing, I’m able to control it better, just given the way I hold the file. With my dominant hand, I use my middle finger to almost stabilize the e-file,” says Wireman. “And when I’m filing (either with a regular file or e-file) the file doesn’t constantly brush up against my other middle finger, which always sticks out when I’m holding the client’s finger in place.”
