If at first you don't succeed...take your political message on the reality TV campaign trail. Dal LaMagna, founder and CEO of Tweezerman and the Progressive Government Institute, is doing just that. LaMagna, who has twice run (and twice lost) for Congress, is one of the candidates running for president of the United States on the new reality series, "The American Candidate" airing this summer on Showtime.

According to AmericanCandidate.com, the series "will attempt to identify one individual who has the qualifications and qualities to be president of the United States." Twelve contestants will be chosen and over the course of 10 weeks, they will face-off against each other in a series of challenges designed to test their presidential mettle. The winning candidate will win $200,000. If LaMagna wins, he has pledged to contribute the entire amount to the Progressive Government Institute.

No stranger to politics, LaMagna ran for Congress in the Third Congressional District, New York as the Democratic and Independent candidate in 1996. In 1997, he ran for the office of Town Supervisor of Oyster Bay, N.Y. In 2000, he ran for Congress again as the Democratic, Working Families, and Green Party candidate.
