During the annual Business Breakfast at this year’s Cosmoprof North America, member of the Beauty & Barber Supply Institute (BBSI), the American Beauty Association (ABA), and The Salon Association (TSA) joined forces to announce the formation of the Professional Beauty Association (PBA). This non-profit trade association will represent the entire professional beauty industry in North America - bringing together for the first time the distributor, manufacturer, and salon/spa communities in order to collectively advocate for the industry.

What does this mean for the salon professional? The PBA will serve the industry through five core competencies:

Education (They will offer continuing business education to improve member business and industry professionalism.)

Government Advocacy (They will serve as the industry’s voice on Capitol as well as at the state and local levels.)

Commerce Opportunities (They will produce events that bring the industry together to get business done.)

Research/Statistic (They will quantify the state of the industry and marketplace trends, providing valuable benchmarks over time.)

Public Relations/Image Building (They will elevate awareness in the general market to help professional beauty industry grow.)

Each membership section - manufacturer, distributor, and salon/spa - has a leadership council consisting of nine members. Three members from each of these councils were appointed to the governing council, which will oversee issue and projects that are of an industry-wide nature.

Look for association updates and events in the near future.
