Her polishes have graced many a famous hand, but now it’s Essie herself claiming a spot in the media limelight. In September — and to millions of viewers— “CBS Sunday Morning” inaugurated a series of profiles called “Who’s the Boss” and introduced Essie Cosmetics’ Essie Weingarten as the creative force behind the well-known polish line.

“Sunday Morning” correspondent Mika BreezinsKi narrated the tale ofa girl from Queens” who, from a very early age, planned to shake up the polish world. “When I was very young, my treat was getting my nails done and there were never any great colors,” Weingarten told Brzezinski. “In the back of my mind I always thought, ‘Hmm, maybe one day I can find a chemist, come up with a great formula, and then I’ll do the colors.’”

Twenty-five years and 300 colors later, reported Brzezinski, “the girl from Queens has an apartment on Park Avenue, a house in the Hamptons, and a $ 150 million empire with her name on it.”
