Two task forces have been asked by Oregon Gov. Barbara Ryans to evaluate whether Oregon's’ State Board of Cosmetology can be eliminated, consolidated with another state agency, or run by a private organization, according to Trisha Albritton, office manager and rules coordinator for the state board.
As a result of a 1991 property tax cut, Gov. Ryans is seeking a 20% to 25% reduction in spending. All 200 state agencies are being reviewed.
One task force has recommended that the cosmetology board be consolidated into a centralized regulatory, appeals, and advocacy agency, while the other task force recommends it be eliminated.
