It’s the charm of the packaging combined with the allure of fragrant, natural ingredients that draw clients of Balance Day Spa to the spa’s monthly specials: manicures and pedicures featuring FarmHouse Fresh products. “To complement the specials, we feature the same products in our boutique as part of a home-care regimen,” says Sophia Huluta, business manager of Balance Day Spa, which has four North Carolina locations. “Changing the products and services monthly keeps our guests excited about what’s to come.”

The FarmHouse Fresh line is made with up to 99.9% natural ingredients, many curated from U.S. farms, according to Shannon McLinden, president and founder of FarmHouse Fresh. “Most salons stock our retail items as quick pick-me-ups, like purse-size hand cream tubes, body oils, and cuticle balm tins.” At Balance Day Spa, they include different samples in clients’ retail bags to promote feedback on which products they would like to see in the monthly specials.

McLinden recommends that full-service salons use testers to provide free or upgraded add-ons while guests wait for their color to set or dry. She suggests a hand massage using lotion or oil, or a more advanced hand/arm exfoliation treatment with a body scrub (easily removed with a hot wet towel) and then a lotion. “The little something extra shows a different level of service that subtly influences guests to come back,” she says.

FarmHouse Fresh provides testers for salon retail areas and over 25 pieces of signage with opening orders. They also discount or offset the cost of unique custom fixtures, like bushel baskets to house hand creams and smaller items.
