Should you establish a no-talking zone at the salon for clients who just want to zone out? When clients at Welsh salon owner Scott Miller’s two Bauhaus salons book an appointment — either over the phone or online — they are given the option to request a “quiet” service free of the usual conversation. Miller told Wales Online the new option was an attempt to allow salon-goers to switch off in an information age where it can be difficult to find peace and quiet. “We wanted to take the embarrassment away, and wanted customers to know we won’t be offended if they don’t want to do the small talk often associated with visiting the hair salon,” he said.

A silent service may be tougher to achieve at a nail salon where client and tech are face to face, but having magazines, iPads, or headphones available to clients will send a signal that skipping the chitchat is just fine by you.
