This October 15th and 16th in New York City, Modern Salon is hosting their annual Artist Session. The two-day session is designed to give salon professionals hands-on experience with professional photoshoots. Attendees will learn the expectations of a stylist on a professional shoot, how to work with models, photographers, and other professionals on a set, as well as other useful skills such as finding an agent, writing a press release, and becoming a freelance artist. Plus, attendees will leave with a Modern Salon goody bag full of products, as well as professional photos that will look amazing in any portfolio. To top it all off, the photographs from the shoot will be featured in both NAILS and Modern Salon Magazine.

While in the past the Artist Session has only been open to hairstylists, starting last year, nail artists are also invited to join. It is possible to attend only the first day of the session, which includes talks by several industry professionals that will teach you invaluable skills for working on professional shoots. The opportunity to work hands-on and participate in such a shoot is only offered on the second day to those who have registered for the full, two-day session. The full session is only open to a maximum of seven attendees, optimizing the time each person is given to work on set.

Joanne Sorbello of Stone Ridge Salon in Stone Ridge, N.Y. was the first nail tech to attend the session. In addition to the nail looks she created being featured in NAILS and Modern Salon, Sorbello was featured in several stories online at nailsmag.com.

"Going into Artist Session, I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. I knew it would be nail art for magazine pictures, but it’s so much more than that!" Sorbello says. "The experience was more about collaborating with some extremely talented hairstylists to enhance the finished look. If you are looking to break into the world of beauty collaboration, this is certainly for you! You’ll be guided by a seasoned group of professionals!"

The price for the two-day session for a nail artist is $800.
