Over the years, we’ve all come to admire Debbie Doerrlamm’s talents as a nail tech, webmaster, and NAILS columnist. But how many of you know about her other passion: classic cars—specifically 1958-1972 Chevys?

As secretary of the Long Island branch of the Late Great Chevy Club, Debbie arranges and participates in events such as car shows, cruise nights, and picnic cruises. But the aspect of her involvement she’s most proud of is the club’s charitable efforts. Recipients of its fundraising efforts include the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Nassau and Suffolk counties, Christian Children’s Fund, and United Veterans Beacon House. An annual two-day holiday Food and Toy Drive benefits thousands of local families.

In recognition of the club’s good works, Hemmings Motor News, a publication for classic car enthusiasts, recently honored the members with the Hobby Hero Award. Debbie and her husband Dave accepted a check for $1,000 on behalf of the club. The money was given to the Adult and Children with Learning Disabilities Plainview Group Home.
