You don’t need a lot of color to make a splash with your salon design. Try a more subdued palette, like the one shown here at Mizu Spa in San Francisco, to welcome clients to a calm sanctuary. Mizu (which means “water” in Japanese) features a shimmery, pale blue curtain to separate the space, pure white pedicure chairs, and an aisle of river rocks that adds interest. “All of the decisions are thought of in terms of creating the refreshing, tranquil, and purifying atmosphere of water,” says Stanley Saitowitz of Stanley Saitowitz/Natoma Architects Inc. in San Francisco. Less can be more when it comes to design; you don’t necessarily have to be loud to be unique. Saitowitz says, “The color should present the concept.”
