To achieve the perfect blend of outdoor views with inside comforts, adapt this idea from Katey Laurenson. In creating her home salon — Minx Beauty in Mount Maunganui, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand — Laurenson turned the house’s sunroom into a sunshine-filled nail room. “From the moment we found this house I wanted to use the sunroom as my nail room. It is set into the back section and flows onto a courtyard with a 180-degree view,” she says. To control the amount of sunlight that enters the space, Laurenson had both window blinds and curtaining fabric installed. “Mum owns a textile business so the curtaining fabric is from one of her ranges. We simply attached the fabric to a long piece of wood that slots into the corner spaces of the aluminium sunroof frame. The top is simply calico, also attached to the wood, then stapled to the opposite side of the roof….My clients love the relaxed, quiet atmosphere and know that when they arrive they are able to chill out and get pampered.”
