A proper acrylic application starts with supplies. Here, CND educator Roxanne Valinoti gives a couple creative tips on how to make your monomer more efficient and your powders more unique.

> If you are always looking for the “right shade” of powder but can’t seem to find it — blend it. You can mix any color powder together to achieve a perfect blend. Start by mixing powders in a plastic jar and shaking it to evenly distribute the particles. Always make sure to test the mix on a clear tip to see its true color and make sure to write down the blend so it can be duplicated the next time. Keep in mind that you want to use powders from the same system to avoid service breakdown or contamination. And the best part is you can charge more for this customized service.

> Buying liquid monomer in bulk can lead to big savings, but it can also lead to lost time and create a mess every time you open, pour, and close the bottle. A great way to speed up the process is to pour the contents of the bottle into a plastic hair color applicator bottle. These can be found with most distributors. When you are ready to apply liquid and powder, take out a brush, squeeze a small amount of liquid into a dappen dish, and uncover your powder lid. It will take all of 20 seconds.
