It’s got 20 questions but it’s no game. Developed by podiatrist Dr. Robert Spalding and nail tech Athena Elliott, SafeSalonRating is a mobile app designed for consumers to evaluate a salon’s level of sanitation, education, and professionalism based on a five-star rating. To come up with a rating, consumers answer questions such as: Did you and your nail tech wash your hands? How clean was the station? Was an autoclave used? Did the techs use a razor blade? Did you feel any discomfort during your service? “The reason behind the site is to allow the industry to begin to police itself and to give the consumer an idea of the likelihood of catching a nail salon infection. SafeSalonRating helps reward good salons and expose salons that are causing problems,” says Elliott. “The bottom line is if we don’t elevate beyond what is expected, we won’t shake the stigmas that have been attached to our industry.”
So how would you rate? You can check out the questionnaire at www.safesalonrating.com.
