With all the negative press our industry seems to garner, sometimes it’s just nice to read a story in the news relating to nails that has a positive outlook. Most often when I’m interviewed for news stories, it has something to do with poor sanitation practices or “evil” chemicals. Last week I got a call from a reporter at a paper in Vermont asking about the growth of salons in his small state. He noticed there was growth and he wanted to report on it. Granted that growth may not seem noticeable (from 51 nail salons in 2002 to 63 in 2007) to some, but to a small state like Vermont, it’s progress. The state didn’t even have nail licensing until 1999. All in all, it’s a nice piece about why women in his state (who by his account are “a wood-hauling, rock-climbing, weed-pulling group”) migrate to nail salons. I’d like to see more articles like this all over the country. Have you seen a recent article on the nail industry with a positive spin? Share it with us by posting a link in Feedback.
