New World Record: 1,897 Nails Filed and Varnished in Eight Hours

Congratulations to the students at the London College of Beauty Therapy (LCBT) for setting The Guinness World Record for “most nails filed and varnished in eight hours”! In setting the record, the students filed and polished 1,897 nails — which is a combined length of 200 meters (656 feet) of fingernails — during the event.

The record attempt began at 11 a.m. on May 13 with the number of volunteer-clients peaking during lunch and after work. (About 20% of those supporting the cause were men.) Students worked the 108 nail stations throughout the building with the more than two liters (68 fl. oz.) of nail polish donated by Mad Beauty. The event also raised £720 ($1,064) for the Wellbeing of Women medical health charity.

The event was organized by Eileen Cavalier, LCBT founder and CEO, to help inspire young people to join the beauty industry. The school wanted to spread the message that despite the current economic environment the beauty industry is still growing with job vacancies available and with employers in need of highly trained staff.

Jack Brockbank, Guinness World Records adjudicator, who presented the school with the record certificate, said: “Despite this essentially being a speed record not one of you allowed your quality to suffer.”
