Educating your client is KEY

One thing that my instructor tells us every day is that your clients will keep coming to you if you educate them on what you are doing, why you are doing it, and how you are doing it.

So true.

Today, I had a conversation with a few of my mother’s friends (trying to drum up some business, no less). They asked me all types of nail-related questions and wanted to know if I could use some practice — and that they will let me practice on them. Excited, I said yes! But before I could even customize or perform a service for them, I needed to know if there were any medical conditions (i.e. high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, pregnancy) that I should know about. Two of the women said yes — one has high blood pressure, the other has diabetes.

I told the woman with the high blood pressure that I would not be able to perform any massage manipulations on her because of the condition. Most massages are designed to increase circulation throughout the body. Since she already has high blood pressure, I would not want to intensify her blood circulation anymore than it already is.

I told the woman with the diabetes that I could not trim any nails nor use metal implements on her because if I were to trim her nails and mistakenly clip skin, I could harm her. It takes diabetics a while to heal from wounds and they can bleed longer than a person without diabetes.

Both women were impressed that I knew so much about performing services to clients with health conditions. They were so impressed that not only will they be my clients, but are looking to book a spa party at their homes so I can perform services on all of their friends and share my knowledge with them!

It pays to be knowledgeable!
