Trend Watch

by NAILS Magazine | September 14, 2010 | Bookmark +

For all of you observant NAILS Magazine fans out there, you may have noticed a newly renamed short column in our October issue: “Trend Watch.” On page 68 (within the Style section), Trend Watch came out of our annual planning meetings here at NAILS. Every year, we take about two to three days to really focus on what the magazine does well and what it needs to improve, and one criticism we’ve heard is that we don’t regularly run stories on couture runway fashion trends. The funny thing is, we’ve showcased a runway trend in every issue since the magazine was redesigned in February 2008 — but the name of the column didn’t make it clear that that’s what we were doing. We originally simply called it “What is…”, then filled in the blank with whatever the trend was. (Some of the ones we’d covered under this moniker include ombre, military couture, and ’80s glam.) “What is” was pretty vague, so it’s been renamed and made much clearer in the October issue, in which the trend we cover is Menswear for Women. Inspired by the polished looks of the opposite sex, woman are donning softer versions of men’s staples like fitted blazers, pinstripes, and button-down shirts.

What do you think? Are you on board with the change?
