Blueprint of a First Year

Marketing & Pricing

Now that the salon is almost ready for its opening, I can put my marketing plan in place. The new school marketing methods are social media marketing. This includes Facebook, Twitter, and the website. Social media marketing has taken the marketing world by storm, so we have followed the crowd. I do have other methods for local marketing, including flyers, networking with the many hair salon owners in the area, and an opening event. I plan to ask every client where they heard about us — this way I can keep up with what’s working and what isn’t.

The opening event I’ve planned is a soft opening, which is a tip I learned from our very own Robbie. (Thanks, Robbie!) He has a post called 9 Things I Learned from Opening a Salon. This post was very helpful to me, so it may help some of you. My secret weapon in marketing is word of mouth (not really a secret, :)). I plan to tell as many people as I can, and I hope they will pass it on. Word of mouth can make or break a business. I plan on it making Upscale Nail Bar a success.

I also have been working on the pricing menu. To complete this task I’ve been researching all things nails to get tips and ideas on how to tackle this issue. I found a post on The Coaching Chronicles called Create the Perception of Value. I think as a new salon owner starting out researching and asking people who have been where you are trying to go is a necessity. I would love to hear your tips on pricing.

Also an update on the salon license: we are still waiting. In my last post I explained I had mailed off the information for licensing. The application process takes 30 days. I think we are on day 15. It feels like day 115 :) I am so ready to get in and get busy. So far everything is still on schedule and on its way. This whole process is still exciting and fun.
