Nail Salon Reality Show Gets the Green Light

Earlier this year I visited The Painted Nail in Sherman Oaks, Calif. (You can read my On The Road here.) A cozy, shabby-chic salon located on busy Ventura Blvd., is fronted by owner Katie Cazorla (an actress, stand-up comedian, TV host, and licensed nail tech) and has its fair share of celebrity clients and Hollywood drama. When I went in, she was excited about a pilot for a reality show that she was shopping around about the salon.

Katie told me then, “We shot the pilot with 495 Entertainment (the team behind MTV’s surprise hit “Jersey Shore”) and we’re anxiously awaiting news on whether we’re getting picked up. It would be the first reality show about nails and what it entails to open a salon, go to school, look for products, deal with crazy clients, celebrities, nail tech drama, you name it!”

And today I received a press release that the show, now called “The Nail Files,” has been green-lit by the TV Guide Network as its first original reality series. The show follows Cazorla (that's her in the white sweater with me last spring) as she juggles her professional life with her relationship with Walter Afanasieff, a Grammy-winning producer who’s worked with Mariah Carey, Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, and Whitney Houston.

The six-episode series will premiere next year. I can’t wait to watch it. It’s about time the nail industry gets some attention. Are you excited to watch a reality show about nail salons? Do you think it's about time our industry got its own show? Leave a comment and let us know what you think.
