Soaking Up Ideas at Orlando

Jill’s last few posts have talked about the reasons techs give for not offering upgrades. I think one of these reasons that I have experienced is the idea that I needed to be fully booked with fills all of the time to be successful. I had this notion that that was the only way to go.  Like I talked about last week, I was working a lot but not really maximizing my time in the salon for profit. I was just keeping busy. I suppose I thought about it like other jobs I had worked and wanted to be sure I was booked every hour to be able to count on (relatively speaking) the money I would make on that day. When I realized the limits of that way of thinking, I started to change the way I booked my clients and took steps to learn new skills to move in a more lucrative direction.

On another note, I was at Premiere Orlando over the weekend and it was amazing. I took a Be Inspired workshop again with Sam Biddle and learned even more ways to use my products to create new add on services for my guests. I was able to pick up techniques that I had missed the first time and to learn new ones. If you have a chance to take a hands-on workshop, do it. It is an investment on your career and great way to recharge your batteries if you are beginning to feel a little lackluster.

I also attended the annual Beautytech Networking BBQ while in Orlando. Networking events like this are a wonderful place to connect with other nail techs around the country and talk about ideas, strategies, and our favorite products and procedures. I highly suggest that you consider attending events like this because you will often learn a great deal of information from the other techs that you may find yourself using regularly.
