Salon Crime Prevention Tips

by NAILS Magazine | October 12, 2011 | Bookmark +

In light of today's shooting at Salon Meritage in Seal Beach, Calif., we want to take a moment to refer you to an article that NAILS published about how to increase the safety of your salon. You can read the article here.

Some pieces of advice from the article include:

Pay Attention. We know you get so busy with clients that it's hard to sometimes look up and pay attention to your surroundings, but it's a habit you should get into. Every once in a while take a look around the salon and pay attention to who comes in and out and who the other nail techs or employees are helping. Promptly greet clients as soon as they walk in.

Extra Measures. You can also take extra precautions, such as adding security cameras, ringers on your doors, and promptly locking your doors as soon as you close for the day.

Our hearts go out to those affected by the shooting. There's suspision that domestic violence may have been at the root of this crime, so we also want to remind you about Cut It Out, a program of the Salons Against Domestic Abuse Fund dedicated to mobilizing salon professionals and others to fight the epidemic of domestic abuse in communities across the United States. Cut It Out builds awareness of domestic abuse and trains salon professionals to recognize warning signs and safely refer clients to local resources.
