Blueprint of a First Year

I Finally Cracked

by NAILS Magazine | March 9, 2012 | Bookmark +

I’m talking tears, sniffles, and yes…snot. The lights were off in our home. Our boys were asleep, and I’m not sure what my guy said, but whatever it was triggered a frantic outburst of panic from me in a high-octave, Minnie Mouse pitch of fear.

Simply put, I cracked.

Our soft open is supposed to be tomorrow, a full week behind schedule, and nothing is exactly how I wanted it to be. Right now, everything is just “okay”, or “fine” or “not bad,” but it’s so UNFINISHED! I am officially in full-fledged panic mode. Did I mention that we soft open tomorrow?!

The pedicure area has been built and is in working order, but she doesn’t look exactly like I wanted her to look. She’s missing something(s). The wall art still isn’t up. I’ve been having trouble finding large pieces, or someone to custom make what I’ve been envisioning at a low, low, low price. And while, my Posh’aah is pretty, she just isn’t perfect.

I feel horrible, my stomach is twisted up into knots, and I feel like needles are being pierced into my temples. I’ve always admired business owners, but I am realizing for the first time how heavy the load of business ownership can become. In a word or two, I’m terrified.

There you have it, uncut, I’m feeling worrisome, bogged down, afraid, and incomplete. So, I have to lock this thing up in prayer, let go of my feelings, and let God handle the rest. Otherwise, I’ll get lost inside my head, and I really don’t have time for that.

Don’t cry for me, Argentina {smile} Stumbling blocks make the journey more interesting.

Anyway, that’s me in the past 24 hours, but the day before was A-MA-ZING! {If you’ve been following, you know I can’t end a post on a sour note. There’s always something to celebrate.}

I attended my first American Beauty Show here in Chicago. It was great! Nicole (a nail care specialist at Posh’aah Nail Spa) and I spent most of our time learning new Shellac techniques and trying our hands at nail art. We attended the CND Runway presentation and the nails were just as stunning as the gowns that traipsed down the runway. Then, we attended the Realway workshop. It was a great instructional session and Nicole and I learned some simple techniques for creating stunning nails with Shellac. We’re looking forward to offering amped up Shellac services at Posh’aah.

UPDATE {as of 3/8/12}
We soft opened today. Several people seemed interested when they walked pass the storefront. However, we had no customers. Instead, it turned out to be a training day for our new team members.
