Blueprint of a First Year

Salon Name Confusion

by NAILS Magazine | May 29, 2012 | Bookmark +

Due to the need for discretion during the early planning stages, Vicki requested that we wait on posting her first few weeks of blog posts until now. Vicki wrote this one on May 5. Don't worry; we'll be caught up to the present day soon!--NAILS Eds

Yesterday Kim, her son Steele, and her husband Russ, went to their storage unit and brought the remaining furniture. They brought a tall, white two-door storage cabinet and the matching dresser and mirror, which we will use for storage and for the coffee station, towel warmer, and microwave. We initially planned on building another wall for a back room but we have nixed that idea. We also nixed the idea of a washer and dryer. We figure we may do two to three loads of towels a week, which isn't enough to justify the plumbing and the cost of a stackable washer and dryer. So now we have more space! The place is looking like a nail salon, finally! The next project is the platform for the pedi chairs.

Polish Nail Salon: Is it Polish like the country or Polish like what we do to nails??? Apparently it’s confusing. Our sign out front says “Polish Nail Salon”. It clearly reads like a nail salon to me, but we have had the majority of people who have stopped by say they thought it was Polish like people from Poland! Makes me nuts. (It doesn't help that "Moscow Music" is next door.) We're going to have a polish bottle added to the sign so people can figure it out. Either that or we change the name, which I don’t want to do. Funny there is another salon in the next town called Pink Polish and no one confuses that name.
