Nails Across America: A Mobile Nail Salon

Breanne Trammell, an artist from Wassaic, N.Y., has set her sights on the nails industry. She took a 16 week nail specialty course and graduated from TW Nail Technology with a Nail Specialty Certificate on June 7, 2012. While she does have a temporary six month New York technician’s license, she is currently waiting to take her exams this summer to attain an official license. Breanne has her sights set even higher than that in a plan that will take her across the country and back.

Breanne has decided to do a cross-country road trip in a canned ham trailer solely to meet new people and do their nails. She hopes to be able to create an edition of 500 sets of manicured nails where each person will get a letter of authenticity with his or her manicure. She also wants to do some male-centered manicures with one of the names of the services being Bro Nails. The name of the mobile salon is “Nails in the Key of Life” and the name of the trip is “Nails Across America.” She chose the title of the mobile salon because she liked the name of Stevie Wonders’ record “Songs in the Key of Life” and she also likes plays on words.

Breanne says that she initially wanted to do the trip because she wants to see all 50 states and wants to meet many different people. She also wants to create an inviting and social one-on-one experience within her mobile salon. She says that she feels this social atmosphere is what has been lacking in the experiences she has had with manicures and pedicures. “It’s kind of a social experiment,” Breanne told us.

The trip will be in the summer of 2013 and will start at Mixed Greens Art Gallery in New York City. From there she will travel to the west coast, to Texas, and then take a mid-west and southern route before returning to New York. She will be doing nails at the Wassaic Festival this August.

Check out her Kickstarter fundraiser, where donating $50 creates another stop on Breanne's trip to do the donors' nails.

For this upcoming year before the trip, Breanne plans on working as a full-time teacher at Ramapo College of New Jersey where she will be teaching design. She is going to use the year to save money and plan for the trip.
