Never Send a Massage Therapist to Do a Nail Technician’s Job

The massage therapist next door is half Korean. In 40 years, she had never had a chance to meet her mother’s side of the family, so she recently took an actual vacation (she works 24/7) to accompany her parents and siblings to South Korea to meet the relatives.

It’s been a lonely couple of weeks without my Cindy. If I ever turn my life into a sitcom, Cindy will be the main comic relief character — the fourth floor has been too quiet without her.

Before she embarked on her journey, she had a small venting session about one of her clients who requested that Cindy bring back a pedicure station for her. A pedicure station?! Talk about your unrealistic requests.

But it dawned on me that my friend would be in another country where they have some great nail products and would probably have some magazines and what-not dedicated to nails. So I said, "Hey! So we can ask you to bring stuff back for us?" After I assured her that I did not expect her to bring back a large piece of furniture for me, I told her thatif she happenedto come across any nail magazines, I’d love one. Cindy doesn’t speak (or read) a word of Korean, so I let her know that she would be able to tell if it was a nail magazine because it would be filled with pictures of nails.

Cindy returned to work this morning and presented me with her bounty: three bottles of nail polish and a "magazine" which is actually a Dashing Diva Designs catalog — in English, even.

It’s the thought that counts, isn’t it? It was very nice of her to make the effort to find me something while she was on her own time, enjoying her family. But I have to laugh at the Dashing Diva catalog. It’s not even printed in Korean!

But the photos are lovely.
