IBS Las Vegas: Contego Spa’s Integrated Spa Chair and Liner

by Kimberly Pham | July 24, 2013 | Bookmark +

Contego Spa introduced its brand and new pedicure chair at IBS Las Vegas, held June 22-24. I met two sisters in beautiful red dresses who then proceeded to sit on the manicure trays. If that doesn’t catch your attention then nothing else will. Pictured above are Lindsey Ta, Leena Nhan, and Michelle Ta, integral members of the Contego Spa team.

Aside from the strength of the side trays and foot rest, the unique thing about the Contego Spa is the spa chair’s integration with the company’s disposable liners. The spa chair uses air jets that flow through plastic piping within the disposable tub liner that attaches directly to the pedicure tub.

Once a pedicure service is completed, it’s time to drain the tub. When a front latch is pulled, a scissor mechanism built into the drain cuts a hole in the disposable liner, sending the used water down the drain. Remove the disposable liner along with the plastic piping and you’re ready for your next client.

Currently, the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology still maintains that you must clean your pedicure tub after every client and soak the tubs one more time at the end of the day. However, there is word that they may change the rules to include the use of disposable pedicure tub liners. We’ll share more information here when it becomes available.

Contego Spa founder Peter Ta waited six years for his patent to be approved before introducing his first pedicure chair to the market. Ta graduated from Norwegian University with a degree in mechanical and electrical engineering and worked at IBM and at the world’s largest aluminum can manufacturer for a number of years before his personal venture into creating his ideal pedicure spa, a process that started in a shared two-car garage. His goal was to create something that would help his wife and siblings (pictured above) who owned nail salons succeed in their businesses. The public launch of Contego Spa is a step toward Ta’s goal of helping his family and toward the company’s vision of providing a quality product that focuses on client safety.
