Twinkle While You Work

by NAILS Magazine | September 12, 2013 | Bookmark +

Korean-based IT company Chahoo Limited brings us the Twinkle Nail, an illuminating nail decal connected to the wearer's smartphone, set to hit the market this December.

Using near field communication (NFC), the chip embedded in the decal lights up, or twinkles, when the wearer receives a phone call or text message, or makes an NFC-based electronic payment. This means it relies on radio waves rather than a separate power supply or battery. A smartphone application must be downloaded prior to use.

The decal is a thin sticker-like product with a flexible internal circuit that's only 0.4 mm thick. Two LED lights sit inside. According to the manufacturer, the product doesn't affect the shape or thickness of the natural nail and looks like regular polish when it isn't lit up. Anything from lacquer to 3-D nail art can lay on top of the waterproof Twinkle Nail.
