10-year-old Aaron Vu was shot and killed in his parents' Miami-based nail salon last Friday night, the young victim of an armed robbery caught on the salon's video security system. The salon footage, shown above, shows two armed men charging into Nails Hong Kong nail salon in Northwest Miami-Dade with guns drawn. The footage then shows the two men shooting into the salon as they flee. Other clients and children (such as the boy sitting near the entrance in the video) were present in the salon when the robbery took place.
The Miami Herald reported that Aaron’s father, Hai Nam Vu, a former U.S. Marine, was shot in the left shoulder. He was still recovering in intensive care as of Sunday.
Friends described Aaron as funny and kindhearted. His mother had cut her work hours a year ago to spend more time with Aaron and his two younger siblings, ages five and eight.
Aaron's uncle, Loc Ma, and Ma's aunt pleaded for help in finding Aaron's killer at a press conference held at Miami-Dade Police headquarters Monday afternoon.
Aaron's family is asking for help in identifying the robbers. They fled in a black Dodge Ram pickup truck. The Miami-Dade Police is offering a $25,000 reward, an increase from $3,000, for information leading to an arrest in the case. Just days before Thanksgiving, I hope these men are caught before they hurt anyone else.
The Miami Herald reported that a suspect they brought in for questioning on Tuesday has been arrested and is being charged of first-degree murder, attempted murder, and armed robbery. The 19-year-old is also said to be a suspect in a robbery at a Dollar Store near the nail salon. They are still looking for the second suspect.
Yesterday, Aaron's father, Hai Nam Vu, thanked the community for supporting their family. "We hope my son's death will not be in vain. That something will come out of this in the future that will greatly reduce senseless acts of violence in our community. No family should have to go through such pain and agony like what my family is going through," he said.
