JLo Wears Wildflowers Nails

Nail tech and salon owner Lauren Wireman has had a whirlwind year since finishing as first runner up in NAILS Next Top Nail Artist competition.  The Cape Coral, Fla.-based nail artist recently did her first set of celebrity nails for the one and only JLo.

While at ISSE Long Beach in January, Wireman met celebrity nailist Elle Robin who was a fan of Wireman’s work. Robin has worked with JLo for the past 18 years and referred her to Tom Bachik five years ago for her trips out west. A few months later, Wireman received a message from Robin asking if she would be interested in doing the super star’s nails. “I think my eyes bugged out of my head when I saw the message.  Most nail artists who want to get into doing celebrity work do not start off with such a huge celebrity icon,” says Wireman, “It’s one of those moments in your career where you ask, ‘Is this really happening right now?’”

The journey to making her 12 p.m. call time began 18 hours prior, with Wireman rushing out in the middle of a thunderstorm to assemble a kit with everything she could possibly need to work on JLo’s nails. With just 16 hours to go, Wireman began creating a custom set for Lopez with the direction of “blingy neutrals.” It took her three hours to create the nails because in the middle of working, Tom Bachik called to offer Wireman a pep talk. Wireman felt reassured by both Bachik and Robin’s support.

But Wireman’s most challenging task was gluing on a set of nails, something she had never done before. “I knew that she would love the nails when it was over, but I was scared that it would be a very bumpy ride,” says Wireman. She glued the first tip on, thinking it looked pretty good. Luckily, Lopez knows exactly what she wants when it comes to her look, and JLo gave her direction for gluing the remaining tips on. “I only glued myself to her a couple times,” jokes Wireman.

Wireman’s three-hour creation pleased the “American Idol” judge, which is a good thing considering she brought more than enough supplies with her to create another set on the super star if necessary. To get the look Wireman began with a creamy pink and added a silvery shimmer as a base. Next, she used nail foil to create gold circles with different soft and shimmery neutral colors, including white, rose, and rose gold. Crystals were added to bling out the look and the undersides were gilded with gold.

Much to Wireman’s surprise, Lopez had a full schedule of appearances ahead of her to promote her new album, and left Wireman’s nails on for the entire week. “She literally wore those nails everywhere.  All of my friends and family were tracking the whereabouts of her nails, and I was getting texts all week about what show she was on with the nails I created!” We can't wait to see where Wireman's Wildflowers Nails will spring up next!
