Men Fight Violence Against Children With Polish

by Judy Lessin | September 2, 2014 | Bookmark +

Polished Man is an innovative fundraising campaign that challenges men to end violence against children by painting one nail. The website explains: “While most men don’t perpetrate violence, approximately 90% of all violence committed against children is perpetrated by men. The majority of this violence happens behind closed doors and is committed by people known to the child. We believe that all men have a role to play in ensuring children feel safe and can reach their full potential.”

By painting one nail, men represent the one in five children who experience violence — sexual and physical — globally. Polished Man participants are asked to:

1. Fundraise to support preventative measures of violence against children.

2. Wear nail polish from September 1-15 and initiate the conversation about ending violence against children.

3. Be a leader in their community by condemning violence against children.

The campaign acknowledges that both women and men are crucial in ending violence against children and ask women to paint one nail in solidarity.
