The Obligatory “What I’m Thankful For” Report

I can’t believe it’s Thanksgiving time again. AND it’s entirely possible that you won’t get to read this until the week after because I have completely spaced on my writing schedule and apparently trashed the e-mail from my editor about her holiday schedule. (Throws hands up in despair with squinchy confused face.)

Needless to say, I have been very busy. My life is pure madness. All I do is work.

OK, OK, I also sleep, and play with the BF on the weekends. It’s not like I’m doing super triple overtime or anything — although I could.

And I’m thankful for that. Really.

It seems that with self-employed folks, it’s always either feast or famine. We’re always too busy or not busy enough. There’s no in between and there’s no making us happy. I’m trying to focus on the glass being full and not get upset about it running over.

I hope all my colleagues out there in Nail Land are having an equally excellent season. I can’t believe I’m already writing “thinking about next year” posts!

So what am I thankful for this year?

I’m thankful for the vacation I got to take back in August — I rode my motorcycle 3,029 miles through six states all by my lonesome. I was completely off the grid most of the time and it was wonderful.

I’m thankful for the three months that Baby Bird worked with me. I learned a LOT about being an employer and about what I want for my business. I miss her, but I’m enjoying working alone again. It might stay that way.

I’m thankful for the hairstylist and the massage therapist who are my neighboring businesses here on the fourth floor. They are good neighbors and together we make a great team.

And, as always, I’m thankful for the hordes of crazy clients who keep coming back and giving me their money. I have no idea what they are thinking, but they insist that they love me and the way I do their nails. I hope they never wise up and realize I’m not the only game in town!

I have one more crazy busy day and then I begin a four-day weekend that will leave me more exhausted than work ever does. So I’ll be back next week (or maybe tomorrow, if I’m wrong about my posting schedule) to talk about nails some more.

I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving — you know, if you do Thanksgiving and all. If not, just have an excellent Thursday.
