"Boss Nails" Review: Episode 3

It’s that time again for a review of the Oxygen series Boss Nails. We’ve already been introduced to the crew at Tippie Toes Beauty Lounge, and now we get to explore their characters even deeper. With this cast of nail techs, there is nothing more entertaining than their brow-raising antics and creative nail designs! Once you get past the “Oh no he didn’ts!" and “OMG I would never!...” you actually get a pretty good glimpse at what it takes to run an in-demand salon.

Professionalism Before Poles

Dana Cody, the salon owner, really has her hands full trying to manage these techs. In this episode, Dana actually sent a few of them to a strip club to drum up business. Which, in itself, isn’t a bad idea; you have a salon in Miami, where exotic dancing is popular and also mentioned in every hip-hop song. So if you ask me, that’s just good recruitment.

But knowing what we know about the Tippie Toes staff from the previous episodes, there is no way that any of them should be allowed near a strip club, especially while on the clock. One of the staff members tried her hand at a new pole dancing career while another took pleasure in providing the massaging portion of a pedicure service. I just believe there are proper ways to do things, and the Tippie Toes staff has a lot to learn about professionalism before they should ever do any marketing at an exotic dance club.

Cast Member Spotlight

The star of this episode for me was Paige, Dana’s cousin. In previous episodes there was a rift between her and Dana, pertaining to attitude and professionalism. But Paige got a chance to redeem herself by taking on responsibility and headlining the King of Diamonds customer recruitment. She really stepped her game up and showed the other staff members how to remain professional in the most extreme environments.

Now, I’m assuming that the other cast members’ behavior is caused by the ever-beaming limelight that comes with being on a reality show. But something tells me I may be wrong.

Side Notes

Nuni - His nails were definitely artistically and structurally better than Rod’s in the last episode but, I still would’ve chosen Rod as my winner. But boy did I feel Nuni’s pain doing those feet – double yuk!

Danieta – Two words: hot mess

Tippie Toes - Are those Dremels I spot being used instead of an electric file? That’s a huge no-no at Beautè Asylum. Professional salon, professional products!

It bothered me that the salon has a Dremel on the premises.

Amber’s nails - Amber really shows some artistic abilities and her nail concepts are pretty creative as well. But the structure of her nails is a turnoff.

These nails are creative, but way too thin!

Paige’s nails - Paige catered directly to her client’s specific needs and the nails were overall cute and cohesive. Still, this team needs to take a few more courses on the correct structure of a nail enhancement.
