Michelle Saunders was inspired by chunky lucite heels for Rebecca Minkoff’s Spring/Summer 2016 collection. In what’s proving to be a popular trend for nails at NYFW, the fashion designer/Essie Global Color Designer crowd sourced three final ideas on her Instagram. The winning design was in fact, Lucite Sunset.

Saunders achieved this look by trimming a makeup sponge in half and using the side that’s more narrow to create the ombre sunset. From top to bottom, layer the sponge in thin, horizontal lines with Tarte Deco, Marshmallow, Beach Bum Blu, and Midnight Cami. Sponge the ombre sunset pattern on each finger, making sure Tarte Deco is always at the base; colors will need to be reapplied to the sponge on every other nail. Apply one coat of Spaghetti Strap over each nail to soften the sunset then finish with top coat.
