"Boss Nails" Review: Episode 6

Boss Nails is well into its first season and I think we all have a pretty good idea of what it takes to be a nail tech in Miami. Lots of parties, lots of drinking, throw a couple of full sets on and voila!

I was so excited to hear about a new show about nails! I was waiting patiently to see what this season would come up with for viewers.  Because of the social media following of Tippie Toe’s InstaFamous techs, a new group of viewers now have access to the inner workings of a salon. The good, the bad, and the ugly are only a channel away. The show has brought attention to our industry, but is it the right type of attention? I want to know how professional nail techs feel about this show. How does it inspire you? Do you ever cringe when you watch it? (There’ve been a few times that I have.)

So far, I think the show has done as much to inspire techs as it has to make some potential techs run for the hills (even though we all know it's intentionally set up for drama and conflict). Dana Cody clearly has a pretty good handle on the business side of owning and running a Miami salon. She knows what it takes to be popular in a demanding environment where competition is fierce. Staying on top of trends and innovating are the only ways to stay ahead of the tech sitting next to you.

Anyway, just clearing my head. And now, on to my favorite co-star: the nails!

Every week Amber just seems to blow me away with her amazing (and drama-free) artistic nail sets. This week Amber had a client challenge her to create a set of nails that evoked an emotion. We’ve all had that client that has come in with no picture or visual aid, but knows exactly how she wants her nails to make her feel.

Amber's nails, for her client who wanted to convey the emotion of love. Nails were great, client was happy.

The emotion that set these nails in motion was L.O.V.E. Amber chose a playful color palette and soft designs to complete her look. The set turned out so pretty! She was polite and accommodating to her client and of course finished the job with a smile. I think techs like Amber are the perfect reality TV co-stars for a great set of nails!
