Week 5: First Test Aced!

Who took their first test and scored 100%? Yes, that would be me! General Anatomy was a little scary initially, but as we got further into it I was comfortable. It wasn’t until I was studying that I realized I am retaining the material. So now that I have my first test under my belt, I feel so much better going into the rest!

During the week I also found out that I will be on the clinic floor in three weeks servicing actual clients who come through the door of the spa. I have to admit I’m a little anxious and nervous about it, but I’m only going to work that much harder to be ready when the time comes. Given that I’m entering this industry with no initial experience outside of painting my daughter’s nails, I sometimes feel a little intimidated by those who have more experience than I do. But if you haven’t figured out by now, I’m not one to be defeated. So watch me as my confidence level only gets better to get ready for when the time comes. I have friends and family who are just waiting for the day I go on the clinic floor. I don’t plan to disappoint.

This week I spent a lot of hands-on time with various services and watching a few demos to get the basics down. Saturday we were supposed to get into acrylics, but the day got away from us. I did have a productive day, which is extremely important to me. I also found myself at the beauty/nail supply stores during the week. Why didn’t someone tell me how addictive this stuff can be? On top of the discounts on items I can practice on, I have been able to get my hands on supplies to practice with at home.

That brings me to another topic. I’m not sure if this is how all schools operate, but the supplies we receive at school have to stay on campus. So for people like me who want to practice at home, we have to go out and get our own supplies. I think it would be nice to have something to practice the basics with, but I don’t know the ins and outs of a nail care program. I will leave that to the professionals and work it out myself. Find a way or make one, I always say. It has worked out all of this time in life, so I apply the same concept in this program.

All in all, I still cannot believe that I am entering Week 6 of my program. It hasn’t been easy as far as time goes, but the sacrifice is going to be well worth the gains of pursuing this. I just know it! I am learning a lot (from instructors and peers), building relationships with my classmates, getting my business off of the ground, and just as excited now as I was the day I decided to enroll in this program. I am just so thankful to have so much support in this journey!
