Nails 101: A Student Blog

Week 26: Doors Are Already Opening!

I take pride in everything I do, so I always want to give my best. I am one of my biggest critics so I believe that studying, practicing, and researching are the things that are going to make me a better nail technician. This week I was presented with a certificate for High Honors. It was a nice moment to receive on a day that was not going the best for me. I never said it was a perfect journey, and there have been tough times, but it's moments like these that further confirm I am just where I need to be.

Another exciting moment in my week was when I received a Facebook message from Athena Elliott, who holds a lot of titles in the industry. I won’t name them all; however, she is the CEO and founder at Safe Salon Rating and CEO at Nail Talk Radio, just to name a couple. I suggest that if you have not heard of her, take the time to find out who she is. She reached out to me because of my NAILS 101 blog post about professional etiquette and decided that it was appropriate to read it on the air. I was in class when I received the message but I could not have been more excited! She also extended an invitation for me to come onto her show as a guest. It has not been scheduled yet, but I am a ball of nerves and excitement to do it!

It's amazing what doors have opened up for me and the connections that I have made thus far as a student. Things have happened beyond my wildest dreams at this stage. I have always said that I will make a name for myself in this industry, but I honestly didn't realize that it would begin while being a student. That's why I always tell people to never take any experience or interaction for granted, because you never know who is watching.

Next week, I am trying to move my schedule around to attend a state board prep class. It's somewhat of a challenge at times being a full-time professional and evening student. I know I will figure it out, but I definitely want to make sure I'm prepared. Time management is an entirely different topic for another post! Either way, I am riding this wave and I am having some fun while doing it!
