Nails 101: A Student Blog

Week 6: Nail Growth and Diseases

by Tiffany Williams | December 6, 2016 | Bookmark +

This week we learned about the ugly side of nails: bacteria, fungus, viruses, and nail diseases and disorders. First, we learned about the structure and disorders of the skin and how to prevent skin problems in the salon. We also learned about natural nail structure and the anatomy of the nail and where everything is located. Some things are really nasty, but essential for a nail technician to know because there are certain disorders and diseases that you cannot work on as a nail technician, and you must refer your client to a doctor.

For the fun part of class, I did an encapsulated feather nail with one of my classmates. It was really easy and fun. We also learned the proper steps for a basic manicure. At first I didn’t think I would remember all the steps without missing one, but after practicing it over and over it became second nature. Next week we have a huge test. It's going to be the hardest one we're going to take so I've been studying every day to make sure I pass. I like that my instructor keeps giving us pop quizzes and regular quizzes to make sure we understand what we're learning. I hope everybody has a wonderful week! Make sure you check out my next blog in Week 7 to see how the test was and what new things we learned. As always, thank you so much for reading and I'll see you in Week 7!
