Nails 101: A Student Blog

Week 9: Electricity, Manicures, and Full Sets

On Monday we learned about electricity, different types of electric currents, and how to safely work with the equipment we'll have in the salon. We played a guessing game to guess what electric terminology we were, and I was direct current. Later, I performed a basic manicure on one of my classmates. On Tuesday, we were going over the manicure chapter in our textbook when we got an announcement that there was a lady who wanted to talk to our school about bone marrow donation. We were there for about 30 minutes. After we went back to the classroom, we practiced the steps of a manicure and performed them on our practice hands.

On Thursday, we got to finish our manicure chapter and my instructor demonstrated how a manicure is properly done. It was fun watching her perform it. After break, I performed a full set on one of my classmates. I had to move faster than I usually work since class was almost over, but I didn't mind because it's practice for when we are in the salon. We might be almost finished with our shift and a client might walk in and want us to do her nails, so it's good to know how to time ourselves. I'm so glad that I'm going to beauty school because I'm learning so much more to the business.

We also got our progress report and my overall average is 82%! I was so excited and proud of myself for having 82% as my average. I didn't get to take pictures this week but I will next week. We are going into pedicures and will be performing them on each other. As always, thank you so much for reading my blogs. It truly means a lot to me that I might be helping someone or that people really just like reading about my experience in beauty school. Thank you and happy holidays! See you in Week 10!
