My Nails Tell the Story When It Comes to My Health

My nails have begun to be a sign of the indifference I've had for my health.

A lot of the time when beginning a journey to better health you see people taking “before” photos that only show their weight. The journey for me is about health, not weight. So to show how unhealthy I have become, the photo that means something to me is one of my nails. You can see the signs in my skin and the nails themselves that I have not been controlling my diabetes responsibly.

As mainly sedentary beings who sit in a chair for the day to do our jobs, it’s easier and cheaper to eat junk food, if we eat at all. Not eating for the entire day is as unhealthy as eating things that are bad for you!

My nails have been my pride and joy for my entire life, so to see them in this photo and admit that I am the cause of their deterioration is embarrassing and frustrating. I challenge you to take a photo of something about yourself that is affected by your indifference to your health, whether it be your hair, nails, skin, shape, etc.

To work on this journey, the focus needs to be about being healthy in ways that fit into our insane schedules without breaking budgets or being too overwhelming to be realistic. The first step we are going to take together is this photo; it’s the baseline as well as the starting line.
