Week 11: Taking Our First Clients on the Floor

We started the week off practicing pedicures.

We started the week off practicing pedicures.

To start off the week, we went back to the basics and partnered up for pedicures to get us ready for real clients on the floor. At first I was a little frustrated because I really wanted to work on my timing of other services. However, I do understand the importance of the assignment, especially because pedicures are one of the more popular services in the industry.

After getting through her well-enjoyed pedicure, I offered to give her a fill on her nails. She accepted and I was excited because I was still able to practice what I wanted. Unfortunately I wasn't able to finish: I laid the acrylic but I still needed to file and shape.

I wasn't able to finish the polish, but I did well on the fill!

Thank goodness we knew the next day was our last potluck and spa day! Our potluck was amazing. We ate tamales, pasta salads, chocolate cake and more. It was delicious! After that, it was time to get back to work. I got right to filing, shaping and polishing. I decided to try some nail art to thank her for letting me do her nails. She chose her gel colors and my artistic intuition began to flow. We both loved the outcome!

Now that we're no longer freshmen, we are on the floor taking clients. It's a little nerve-racking! Two weeks ago I did a sculpted full set on one of the cosmo students and this week, she needed a fill. I was excited that she decided to come back to me, but also because ALL of her nails were still on, and she's a server! I was proud of myself and that gave me the confidence to make her nails look pretty again.

Our first assignment to complete as juniors is called the "Five Client Project," where it's our goal to take on five clients and get used to that process. As an incentive, they all receive services at 50% off, which is a great deal if you ask me. However, I wasn't sure how that would work for me since I'm not from the area, but luckily, my coworkers at the Hard Rock Cafe came through! (I work there as a waitress.) So our assignment hasn't officially begun and I already have two clients. It's been overwhelming to see how much people truly believe in me and support my future.

For my first two clients, I did a manicure and a fill with gel polish, with another apointment scheduled for this upcoming week. I'm so excited for the future, as you should be too. We've made it to the floor so now it's time to spread our wings and fly like a beautiful butterfly.

Until next time, spread JoLove!
