Something about being a senior gives me this exciting feeling inside. Another exciting thing is that one of my co-workers from the Hard Rock Cafe just started at Euphoria. It was her first day as a freshman nail tech student and my first day as a senior. It is the beginning of her journey and will soon be the end of mine. From servers to nail techs, we’re in this together!

I’ve established a decent clientele, which can be pretty tough as a student. The clients I’ve had have loved me, and most of the time they've rebooked future appointments with me. It’s all about how you treat your guest: The better you make them feel, the better chance you’ll have at keeping them as a client. For example, Monday I had a client come in who has come to the school before. She always gets a gel mani with a clear coat because of her career, but the last visit didn't go very well. Surprised that she came back, I knew I had to make it up to her.

I started her with a mini consultation, and I found out the previous student used a coarse file (normally used for acrylic) on the natural nail. This can be extremely harmful to the natural nail because it strip layers off at a time, thins the nail plate, and makes it porous, which can be painful to the client especially under a UV/LED lamp. After that I used the information she gave me and got started with our manicure. We were successful. She loved it! She prebooked a pedicure for the following week. It made me feel good to have another satisfied client.

This client had damaged nails so I started her with a restoration.

Another reason why it’s important to treat your clients well is because of marketing. Everyone knows word-of-mouth is the best way to bring in new clients. It’s a verbal review of you and your services. Tuesday and Wednesday were perfect examples for that. On Tuesday, a morning cosmo student scheduled an appointment with me. She said that she has seen my work and had heard that I do a great job. Hearing that always makes me feel good. After discussing exactly what she was looking for, we started on her sculpted pink and whites with a glitter accent nail. She wanted to go with long nails. I didn't recommend this because she was a nail bitter, but the client wants what the client wants. Despite the fact that I knew they probably wouldn’t last long, due to that nasty habit of nail bitting, they came out beautiful! Smile lines were pretty much perfectly smooth and shiny. I loved them.

(Side note: anyone having issues with their pink and whites I’d recommend going on YouTube and watching the pink and white video on the Young Nails page under their nail school playlist.. That definitely helped me!)

On Wednesday, I had two appointments, but I was a little confused because none of my friends told me that they had scheduled anything. Once I found out it was because someone referred them to me, my heart just melted. There’s no better feeling, as a nail tech student, than to have people you’ve never met before come to you because they heard that you were “that good”. Anyways, these two ladies came in for gel manicures, they both wanted a similar look. At the end of their services I gave them both business cards and even one of them rebooked a future appointment with me. Yay!

To end the week, we began practicing for the state board practical exam. At 500/600 hours, we’re eligible to take the test. I can’t believe we’re almost there, but I’m so ready at the same time. I have days where I’m so tired, but February 1st is right around the corner, so I have to keep it pushin.

Stay focused, stay focused, stay humble! Keep spreading love and watch your blessings come.

Till next time,

Jojo
