a little background.
I'm in small town saskatchewan, an example, a full set of gel nails ranges anywhere from $30 to a huge $55 (canadian $) it's sad really.
I do good nail art but anytime someone asks for something they scoff at an extra 50 cents to put 2 bucks worth of art and jewels on their nails. i LOVE to do nail art but i just can't charge anything worth my while.

how can i get people to get nail art any pay even a fraction of what it's worth? i hate living in a place where dirt it literally more expensive then anything else...

I am from 'small town Saskatchewan' as well, and I truly understand your frustration. It is diffucult to promote new, exciting services when the majority of the population prefers to follow BEHIND the ever expanding industry. The price ranges really are crazy - from one end of the spectrum to the other!! I charge $65 for a sculptured full set of bio-sculpture nails, far below the 'sugg. retail price', and my average for nail art is $3 (from $1 to $5 per nail, dependant of course on time, effort, product, etc.)

I think that one of the most important thing to remember is patience, patience, patience. You have to earn your clients trust, and encourage them to try new things without being pushy. They are much more likely to purchase nail art (or ANYTHING from you, for that matter!) if they truly believe that you have their best interests in mind. Do you have displays of nail art for your clients to actually SEE your creations?? You could glue tips to the end of an orangewood stick, and go nuts! Display them in a pretty little jar with an enticing sign. I know that offering a simple design for first time clients helps as well. They will more than likely opt for the art when they return for their fill.

Just be creative...And very patient, Saskatchewan IS catching up!!
Best of luck,
J

Fire,
As Nejlynn said try having some examples of nail art.....(saskatchewan isn't the only cheap place ) then offer one free nail....once!......next time they come offer to do another ...but say there will be a charge.......I charge $2. extra and up ....but I charge $.50 per 3 rhinestones.....I know it sounds expensive but they are ! and I make the money with them.....I also have themed nail art .....offer some examples of the holidays that month......you know ...flowers ,mothers day, christmas, that sort of thing make a fancy display of that theme...get them in the spirit......also it helps if yours are all done up as well......Cheers

You are definately not alone in living in a cheap area! I know your pain. If you haven't yet, do display some samples, they will get people's attention. Then, the other thing I like to do, is if I am running late, and a new or newer client ends up having to wait for me to finish the client before them, I will offer to do nail art for free on one or two nails for the client that had to wait. Then they feel like they are getting something for thier time, and they also get a chance to wear the art. Usually once they see how many compliments they get on decorated nails, they will happily pay for the art after that. Good luck!

I found a wonderful art book at Premier Nail Source. It's a binder with a lot of step by step designs. I love it and it's helped me a lot. Also, I sit and play. I get out my brushes and tips and just do whatever. this has also helped me. Good luck!!

to get people started at where i live i give them free nail art on their toes. those discount nail salons who do airbrushing for so little ,people are just used to that . keep pushing it youll do fine. i love nail art also i havent put any up on the nail gallery yet because there are people complaining about bad art and itll probably hurt my feelings so . just keep on asking and when it starts to get buisy enough on the nail art charge more.

I am no good with pictures at all when it comes to nail art but what has been great fun to me and my clients is doing what I call line art....there is so much you can do just making lines so to speak...then I had rhinestones to it....no one has complained at all....
