State legislatures are now on session. Various bills have been introduced that, if passed, would affect nail technicians and salon owners in several states. The following are bills currently being considered.
February 1, 1995
As of December 31, 1994 nail technicians practicing in Illinois without a cosmetology license need to have a nail technician’s license.
October 1, 1994
Proposed new language spells out whether it’s okay to war blouses, shirts, sweaters, smokes, dresses, pants, jeans, T-shirts, and Bermuda, walking, and jeans shorts.
May 1, 1994
Currently, the law allows nail technicians in New Jersey to own their own salon but not to manage it. To own a shop, a nail technician has to hire a beautician or hairstylist with three years of experience to act as manager.
March 1, 1992
Illinois nail technicians overcome legislative indifference and a governor’s veto to see a licensing bill enacted.
