Shellac + Additives = Fab
  • July 12, 2016

Texture, dimension, and custom colors are a few ways CND® Additives can give your clients a unique manicure. Follow these steps to get three fun looks.

With summer in full swing, your clients crave a look that’s fresh, flirty, and fabulous. One way to mix up the routine manicure is through CND® Additives™. Concentrated pigments with sparkling effects are easy to blend or layer over CND Shellac®. We’ll give you a few tips on how to work Additives into three nail art looks using CND’s Shellac 2016 Summer Flirtation Collection.

Flirty Filigree

Tip: Create a layered look by stamping the same design in different complementary colors. Follow the step-by-step below.

1. Properly prep the natural nail.

2. Apply a thin layer of Shellac® Base Coat Cure for 10 seconds in the CND® LED Lamp™.

3. Apply two thin layers of Shellac® Aqua-intance. Cure each layer for one minute.

4. Brush Vinylux® Honey Darlin’ on the pattern in the stamping plate, followed by a drop of Vinylux® Cream Puff. Use the stamping scraper to blend the two colors together on the plate.

5. Remove excess blend, roll stamp over pattern, and apply to the nail.

6. Using a dry CND® ProSeries Gel Flat Oval Brush apply CND® Additives Lavender Whispers to the second pattern in the stamping plate, followed by a drop of Vinylux® Lavender Lace. Use the stamping scraper to blend the two colors together on the plate.

7. Remove excess blend, roll stamp over pattern, and apply to the nail.

8. Using a detail brush, apply a thin layer of Shellac® Honey Darlin’ around the perimeter of the nail.

9. Apply XPRESS5™ Top Coat. Cure for one minute.

10. Wipe with 99% Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) to remove top film.

Ombre Play

Tip: Add texture and dimension by using an Additive in the same color family to the tip of the nail. By using three shades instead of two, you can create a seamless color shift.

1. Properly prep the natural nail.

2. Apply a thin layer of Shellac® Base Coat. Cure for 10 seconds in the CND® LED Lamp.

3. Apply two thin layers of Shellac® Be Demure. Cure each layer for one minute.

4. Pour a small amount of Shellac® Winter Glow and Shellac® Cream Puff into a mixing tray.

5. Use a makeup sponge to apply Shellac® Winter Glow to the center of the nail. Repeat with Shellac® Cream Puff to the tip of the nail. Do not cure.

6. Use a CND® ProSeries Gel Flat Oval Brush lightly moistened with IPA to blend colors. Cure for one minute.

7. Use a dry CND® ProSeries Gel Flat Oval Brush to apply CND® Additives Exhibition to the tip of the nail.

8. Apply XPRESS5 Top Coat. Cure for one minute.

9. Wipe with IPA to remove top film.

Stuck on You

Tip: Use a barely-there shade (like CND® Beau) to camouflage any discoloration on the nail while still creating a subtle negative space (the moonicure)

1. Properly prep the natural nail.

2. Apply a thin layer of Shellac® Base Coat. Cure for 10 seconds in the CND® LED Lamp.

3. Apply a thin layer of Shellac® Beau. Cure for one minute.

4. Apply a thin layer of Shellac® Pink Pursuit to 3/4 of the nail, leaving a moon shape in the cuticle area. Cure for one minute. Repeat for additional coverage.

5. Use a detail brush with Shellac® Cream Puff to create a semicircle-shaped pattern at the base of the moon and outline the perimeter of the moon. Do not cure.

6. Use a stylus with Shellac® Cream Puff to create small dots and complete the lace design. Cure for one minute.

7. Apply a thin layer of XPRESS5 Top Coat. Cure for one minute.

8. Wipe with IPA to remove top film.
