Challenge 1 sponsored by Dashing Diva gave our contestants a chance to create nail art for the masses. Each artist designed his/her own pattern for spring/summer 2014 nail coatings based on seven seasonal trends.
This week’s challenge is sponsored by Dashing Diva and our Top 12 contestants were tasked with creating nail art appliqués on a template based on one of seven trends from Spring/Summer 2014 Fashion Week. Our artists were allowed to use any medium to create their looks. And we’ve posted them on the Week #1 Challenge page.
When we told each of the finalists that they’d made it to the Top 12 of NAILS Next Top Nail Artist, we asked them what it meant to them to make it this far. Here is what they said. (Along with some pretty amazing nail art representations of making it the Top 12!)
It’s with much excitement that we announce the 12 finalists in our inaugural NAILS Next Top Nail Artist contest. With talented entries from all over the world, narrowing down the contestants from the 24 semifinalists was no easy task. In order to select our final 12, we asked the artists to compete in two challenges that were judged by the team at NAILS and Gelish founder Danny Haile. Our 18 remaining semifinalists were tasked with creating a simple black-and-white design and uploading a video tutorial of the design to YouTube.
This challenge specifics were:
1. Create a SHORT (1 to 2 minute) video tutorial of a simple black-and-white design on a single tip using any medium(s). You can only use BLACK and WHITE. No other colors are to be used in your design. Make sure to also take a high-res photo of your final image.
2. Post your video to your YouTube page and make sure to tag it with #NextTopNailArtistTop18.
3. Tweet a link to your video using the custom hashtag #NextTopNailArtistTop18.
4. Take a photo of your final image and upload it to Instagram with the same custom hashtag #NextTopNailArtistTop18.
This week we gave our 24 semifinalists an ’80s-themed challenge:
Create a 1980s-inspired nail art design on a single tip. You are free to use any medium and any products you choose.
Please shoot step-by-step photos of the design as you go (up to 10 steps), and upload the tutorial and final image to your Nail Art Gallery profile.
Write out detailed instructions for each step and use the custom tag NextTopNailArtist80s. After you upload your tutorial, use the custom button on the page to “pin” your tutorial to any of your personal Pinterest boards or community boards. Please include @NAILSMagazine in the caption of your pin.
The NAILS judges and Gelish judge Danny Haile scored the entries, and six more contestants were eliminated.
The top 24 semifinalists in NAILS Next Top Nail Artist contest sponsored by Gelish have been selected. In its first year, NAILS Next Top Nail Artist garnered entries from around the world. The high caliber of nail art submissions and video diaries put the pressure on our judges to select the cream of the crop for this reality show-inspired contest.
