Hello, I’m Yessie and I am so thrilled to be part of this competition. What sets me apart from everyone else is my own style, attention to detail, incorporating what I think looks best, but doing what the client wants. I have an endless amount of imagination and creativity, which is why this competition is perfect for me. I’m very professional when it comes to my work, and when someone sits in my chair it’s all about them and creating a personal connection with them. Each week I will bring a different dimension to nails. When it comes to nails, there’s an infinite amount of designs you can do. I’m ready to give it my all and soar high!

Week 2: Bio Seaweed Gel

IN TOO DEEP

“In Too Deep” — when I first got this challenge, I thought to myself, I want to do something mystical, glistening, and something to do with sunken treasures. To create my puffer fish I used sculpture gel and used a marble with a piece of foil to use it as mold. l then cut thin gold wire and glued them on one by one. I also have on there a message in the bottle with Bio Seaweed Gel’s logo! I love the clam. Instead of doing a treasure chest I wanted to have all the jewelry come out of a clam, making it unique and such a nice touch. On one of the nails I used tulle and laid the shell in it. If you look closely there are fish eggs in there! I went dark on the nails because they symbolize water so I created an ombre effect with glitter.

Week 1: Young Nails

CREATE YOUR CAPTION

“Siempre Contigo” (si-ehm-pre kon-tee-goh) means “always with you.” This was the phrase that came to my mind when I first got the challenge. This is such an important phrase to me and my boyfriend. The mural you see reflects our long distance love. I painted a moon and the sun to show the time difference. I decided to paint the Cuban flag in the middle of the heart because Cuba has such a big meaning to me. My family is from there and I met the love of my life there. There is a plane to symbolize traveling, the letters (yes, we send letters snail mail too), and the two of us on top of the heart with a red string because we are connected at the heart, even though so many miles are between us. I decided to make the background the sky, because it’s the one thing we both know we can look up and know we share. The moon has a huge meaning to us because at the end of every day the moon is always shining on both of us. Always with you, siempre contigo, is the phrase that’s always said after every phone call, every text, and every letter because even though there are 3,000 miles between us, we are together at heart.
