This week’s sponsor, Orly, was responsible for creating the original French manicure in 1978. The idea behind the look was that it could go from day to evening and was versatile enough to go with just about any outfit or style. We challenged our Top 10 to create a modern, Los Angeles-focused French manicure look on two hands (an actual person’s hands). Polish, gel-polish, and acrylic paints were allowed to create the design. (Acrylics, gels, and tips were only allowed as the base of the nails to create a better canvas. But we didn’t want to see this application as part of their process.) The use of embellishments (gemstones, charms, studs, etc.) was allowed, but must not make up more than 50% of the design.

We also asked them to shoot step-by-step photos and post them, along with instructions onto their Nail Art Gallery profiles so we could all see how to get their L.A. look.

Week 3’s challenge winner will receive the entire Orly’s Professional Gel Kit and a brand new lamp. (Approximate value: $200)
