For Season 4’s seventh Last Chance Design Lab challenge sponsored by CND, Cate Widemire and Deanna White will battle it out one-on-one to see who has a chance of staying in the competition. CND’s Jan Arnold will select her favorite look Friday and you’ll find out who will remain for at least one more week.
All Last Chance challenges are done on a single nail tip. Contestants are also asked to describe their looks. There are no other elements to this battle.
Since Cate packed her paintbrushes during the Scream Queens challenge, this week’s Last Chance challenge is loosely related.
Scream King: Create a male counterpart to one of last week’s Scream Queen designs.

Behind every Scream Queen is a calm, calculating Scream King who can make your hair stand on end. Tracey’s diva-licious razor protection nails are the perfect match to protect the most vulnerable Scream Queen against the most notorious Scream King: Freddie Krueger.
Lurking in the dark damp graveyard behind the shadowed mausoleum is a slight glimpse of the famous red and gray sweater. No Scream Queen is better paired to shred Freddy to pieces. As this Scream Queen approaches the mausoleum, heart racing, seeing each breath in front of her as it hits the night air, she is ready to flash her razor-sharp accessories. This experienced Scream King will no longer light up Elm Street. Tracey’s Queen Diva has dismantled the King of Scream.
For this week’s Last Chance challenge we were asked to create a male counterpart for one of last week’s scream queens. I chose Tracy Vinson’s set because I loved her set and character choice.
Lady Gaga plays a murdering hotelier (The Countess) who slices people up with her long nails in American Horror Story. Her match made in heaven would be Norman Bates. Norman is a fellow murdering hotelier with a creepy relationship with his mother.
The Bates Motel TV series is based on the Alfred Hitchcock movie Psycho. This movie revolutionized the horror movies. The infamous shower scene has been mimicked time and time again.
I chose this scene to represent on my nail along with the current version of Norman because I loved the original movie but I also love the TV series. I included one of Norman’s famous quotes from both the movie and the show, “we all go a little mad sometimes.”
I can only imagine how the sparks would fly if The Countess and Norman ever met.
My piece is made of gel, acrylic, gel-polish, and acrylic paint. I added a few metal embellishments such as chain, studs, and jump loops.
